Our Beliefs
Basic Beliefs
“The purpose underlying the revelation of every heavenly Book, nay of every divinely-revealed verse, is to endue all men with righteousness and understanding, so that peace and tranquility may may be firmly established amongst them.”
– Bahá’u’lláh
Throughout history, God has sent to humanity a series of divine Educators—known as Manifestations of God—whose teachings have provided the basis for the advancement of civilization. These Manifestations have included Abraham, Krishna, Zoroaster, Moses, Buddha, Jesus, and Muhammad. Bahá’u’lláh, the latest of these Messengers, explained that the religions of the world come from the same Source and are in essence successive chapters of one religion from God.
Bahá’ís believe the crucial need facing humanity is to find a unifying vision of the future of society and of the nature and purpose of life. Such a vision unfolds in the writings of Bahá’u’lláh and include the following principles:
One God known by many different names
A single divine Source for all religions
The unity of the human family
The equality of men and women
The essential harmony of science and religion
The elimination of all forms of prejudice
The independent investigation of truth
The need for spiritually based solutions to economic and environmental problems
The importance of the family as the foundation of society
The need for international peace and global unity
