May 8, 2020: Baha'i World Centre
Series on “Baha’i World” to focus on themes related to global health crisis
BAHA’I WORLD CENTRE — As the world grapples with the coronavirus pandemic, questions about humanity’s future loom large. The online publication The Baha’i World is, in this context, initiating a series of articles that focus on major issues facing societies as they look ahead.
“The current global pandemic has demanded drastic action,” write the editors. “It has also made evident the need for profound reflection on how humanity will emerge from this crisis. Will we move towards a more just and peaceful world?”
The first article in the series, published earlier today, looks at questions around government’s role in social welfare. Future articles will explore a range of topics such as economics, migration, and agriculture and food security, among others. The new series will join existing articles on peace, technology, rural development, and humanitarian relief.

More information is available at this web page: http://health.hamiltontn.org/AllServices/Coronavirus(COVID-19).aspx

If  you decide to go for testing on Bonnyshire Road, go early in the morning.  The police said that people in cars start lining up around 7AM for a 9AM opening.  Now they only stay open till 10:30 a.m. There are only 125 tests per day offered and they run out early.
Here are the current areas in Hamilton County with the higher areas of COVID-19 confirmed cases.

BEST PRACTICE (and yes it's still the best protection): Use social distancing as much as possible and wash your hands with soap. How to make your own home sanitizer (see below)
A biomedical PhD broke down what you’ll need to make hand sanitizer at home. You might have several of these items around already, and if not, they’re likely more available than Purell is at the moment. We've included links to where you can get some of these ingredients online.
  • 2/3 cup 99% rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol (buy rubbing alcohol on Amazon)
  • 1/3 cup 100% pure aloe vera gel (buy aloe vera gel on Amazon)
  • Optional: 8-10 drops essential oil for smell (buy essential oils on Amazon)
  • Bowl and spoon
  • Funnel
  • Empty liquid soap or hand sanitizer bottle
  • Optional: Gloves
How to make hand sanitizer in two steps - Step 1: Mix the rubbing alcohol, aloe vera and optional essential oil in a bowl with a spoon. Be careful to keep pure alcohol away from your skin.
Step 2: Funnel the mixture into the empty bottle. Screw the pump cap back on and voila, you have hand sanitizer.
Making hand sanitizer at home: Warnings-As easy as it is to make your own hand sanitizer, you should be aware that rubbing alcohol in high quantities can damage your skin. Make sure you stick to the 2:1 proportion to keep the alcohol content around 60+%. You can also use gloves while mixing and follow up sanitization with hand moisturizer.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I THINK I HAVE COVID-19 SYMPTOMS?
Call your doctor:  If you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 and develop a fever and symptoms, such as cough or difficulty breathing, call your healthcare provider first for medical advice before heading to a health care facility. Note: Most coronavirus patients have mild or moderate illnesses and recover without need for hospitalization. The people at elevated risk of serious illness are “older adults,” in the phrasing of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and anyone with an underlying chronic illness such as heart disease, lung disease or diabetes. Data from China showed that the risk increased for people over age 60 and was greatest for people over 80 who had underlying chronic illnesses.

SYMPTOMS:
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is characterized by mild symptoms including a runny nose, sore throat, cough, and fever. Illness can be more severe for some people and can lead to pneumonia or breathing difficulties.
More rarely, the disease can be fatal. Older people, and people with other medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease), may be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill. The elderly, and especially those 80 years and over, or with underlying chronic health conditions should be especially careful.
People may experience:
  • runny nose
  • sore throatS
  • cough
  • fever
  • difficulty breathing (severe cases)

This so-called exponential curve has experts worried. If the number of cases were to continue to double every three days [unabated], there would be about a hundred million cases in the United States by May. However, there are way to further mitigate the effects of the virus using "social distancing" techniques. Read the Washington Post article above. See below the results of having no social distancing at all compared to increasingly extensive social distancing.
